We have been busy recording basic tracks for the new Due North record. Drum tracking is finished, guitars and percussion tracks are well underway, with the occasional vocal. Most of the vocals are likely to be scratch tracks at this point, but you never know, we may save a few gems.

Eric and Jordan Wright took turns playing bass and guitar along with Jordan VonZynda’s drumming in order to help capture some live energy, but we plan on replacing the scratch guitar tracks after all of the drum-work is done.

The Gator has released her album, Amateur Cartography. The collection of 10 songs was recorded at Drifting Sun Sound in late 2012 and early 2013. All tracks were performed, recorded and mixed by the Gator herself with some minimal help from her friends. Check it out, it is a work of art.

Due North

March 5th, 2012 Comments off

Due North have begun recording a new album at Drifting Sun.  We set up drums on Sunday (thanks in large part to Doobie Bros. Stage Manager/Drum Tech, Tyler Habrecht) and got some killer drum sounds in my living room.

The new house with its vaulted ceiling sounds great!

We finished drum tracks for six songs on Sunday (sorry new neighbors), and we plan on finishing four more on Tuesday in order to do a ten song album.

Working with the Gator

February 17th, 2012 Comments off

Allison Hanna, AKA “The Gator,” of Utility Monster fame, has started working on some new tracks.  Her intention is to produce an entire album’s worth of material in the coming months.  Her arrival at Drifting Sun Sound has helped me motivate to get the sound treatment finished.  We will also continue mixing the second Utility Monster EP, perhaps with the addition of a few re-cut guitar and vocal tracks.

Allison doing some critical listening (note the new acoustic treatment - the "ping" is gone and the room sounds good)
